Climate Change Mitigation Strategies

Home / Focus Areas / Climate Change Mitigation Strategies

We work to leave fossil fuels behind that cause climate change, reduce carbon emissions and ensure a fair transition to renewable energy.

Climate action in cities is carried out under two main headings: policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation) and policies to build resilience against the effects of climate change (adaptation). Mitigation policies aim to reduce current and future greenhouse gas emissions, especially from energy production and consumption, land use, waste management, industry and transportation sectors.

For this purpose, as IAD;

  • We take responsibility for our carbon footprint by taking various actions to promote sustainable development and improve urban and environmental living conditions.
  • We provide guidance on policy making and capacity building with a multi-stakeholder, inclusive and principled approach by putting environmental protection at the center of all our activities.
  • We work with local governments, national and international institutions and organizations to design short, medium and long-term climate plans and develop strategies that are compatible with global and local goals, and help integrate them into economic, sectoral and development plans.
  • We carry out studies to work on the design, planning and implementation of low-carbon urban development, better land use and energy efficient transportation systems, as well as developing the necessary methodology, tools and standards for measuring emissions.
